Title: Facing the Beast
Medium: pencil, pens Dimensions: 11x8 Date: September, 2018 Referencing back to the beast before, which was the moon the ominous girl is now ready to face the beast. She walks right into the moon, revealing it's loneliness and meaningless life without the red sun. She represents the red sun and surrounds him (the moon). |
Title: The Beast
Medium: markers, pencil, pens Dimensions: 11x8 Date: September, 2018 This piece is like many of the other sketchbook pieces connected to 31 Nights. Keeping in mind a portal in water, I focused on the idea that the moon is the beast. The moon has the power to control water, and if strong enough blood within people. The piece is mostly black and white, thus the girl in red with a trail stands out and makes her ominous. |
Title: Prisoner/Babylon
Medium: markers Dimensions: 8x11 Date: October, 2018 I found inspiration from the song Babylon - 5SOS. Babylon is an oppressive state/place. The song represents the idea of feeling insecure but losing it all and having to watch as it fades away. The eye is blankly staring at the damage and can't do anything to stop it. "We burned too bright now the fire's gone, watch it all fall down Babylon!" |
Title: Lost You
Medium: pencil, pens Dimensions: 11x8 Date: September, 2018 This piece is also connected to 31 Nights. Following the idea of being lost even if certain things are clear. There are limbs around piece which represents the you, as well as flowers to represent the beauty of being lost. The questions can be directed to the person lost from the outside, or internally. I really wanted to keep it connected to other sketchbooks in only using pens (red and black). There is also a quote that answers the question of only being lost momentarily however being able to stay in that state of mind. "Something you get in the moment, can be easily lost in the moment as well." |
Title: Vanitas
Medium: Color Pencils, Charcoal, Pencil Dimensions: Date: October, 2018 This piece is a still life inspired by the idea of a Vanitas. Each piece can represent different things for different people, and convey different meanings. The piece in the center can represent fortune, good luck, and wealth. The leaves in the background represent life as well as an inevitable death (wilting). The vase with no water represents a living flower that is not able to access what it needs to survive, however it can also be a flower that is artificial and does not need water to survive. I like the end result, however it was hard at times to add more to the piece other than the objects itself. |
Title: Lively Death
Medium: charcoal, oil pastels, paint Dimensions: Date: This piece was at first going to be all black and white charcoal, however I liked the idea of adding color. I added color to different parts of the skeleton, as well as in flowers throughout the piece. It was hard for me to find value in the piece because I wanted to make it more than just shades. I was inspired by a juxtaposition between living and dead things, and depicted that through a lifeless skeleton and lively flowers. Both of which had their own aspects that related to death and life. |
Title: Beyond All
Medium: pencil Dimensions: 11x8 Date: October, 2018 This piece is another sketchbook. It depicts a girl reading the news, something that is consistent in her life. Which is Beyond All things that surround her thoughts and float in the air not really getting her attention. |
Title: Loss and Deceit
Medium: pencil, oil pastels Dimensions: 11x8 Date: November, 2018 This piece is another piece. My hope for this piece was to depict people that have their own opinions which may get lost among the world´s views which are more uniform. Among the world´s norms (blue) and your own (yellow) only some are able to look past deceit. There are also lyrics from YOUNG - Baekhyun X Loco which state ¨I´ll spray on the dark nights´ color with my own color. I have plenty of time.¨ |
Title: Kaleidoscope of Being
Medium: pencil, pens Dimensions: 11x8 Date: November, 2018 This piece is a composed of simple flowers and shapes. I focused on the theme of the piece which was a kaleidoscope of being. Therefore the being is represented in individual and different flowers, which are covered in the same shapes. They are layers of the same essential pattern, to mimic a kaleidoscope. |
Title: The color red
Medium: pen, marker Dimensions: 8x11 Date: December, 2018 |
This piece was inspired by the color red. I based it off of the lyrics for the song, Red Light by f(x). The lyrics say, ¨Wait a minute, follow the rules of the Jungle. The weak will get eaten, they just push me forward...¨ I decided to draw a confined jungle, that people are automatically directed to because of a one way red light.
Title: Hear the Sea
Medium: marker Dimensions: 11x8 Date: December, 2018 This piece was inspired by an aerial view of the ocean. It depicts all different kinds of people in water, as well as lyrics to the song Hear the Sea by Red Velvet. It goes ¨I can hear the ocean, especially closer today. The hot light that lasts all day.¨ |
