I create for many reasons, one of them being that art is an outlet for everyone to express their feelings and views. A lot of my photography is of my life and things that make up who I am. I value many things in art, but it obviously changes for the forms of art. In photography I really value capturing shadows, light, and color. I make sure to really capture the actual moment in a picture. In my actual art I pay attention to scale and size, I really care about colors as well but forms and values in color aren't as big of a factor. I feel like my art doesn't have a realistic aspect, and a lot of the times it's because that aspect is expressed in my photography rather than my actual art. I'm proud of many of my pieces, but I especially take pride in my photography. A lot of the times my photos are either bright or dark, there's really no in between. The lights and shadows in a picture really changes the mood of a picture. The darker the photo the more intense and sort of fierce. The brighter the photo really brings up the mood and the happiness. In my art I feel like there's always a flow, there's never really an abstract aspect. Things in the art always fit together, and the colors are always more complimentary. As stated before I don't pay much attention to the shading and reality of shapes, but I believe that's all made up for in the color. The art of course always changes depending on what I want to capture, for instance in my sunflower piece my personal style would've been more bright and colorful. But in that instance I wanted to capture the realistic sunflowers in front of me. My art is always an outlet to express myself, so the art in that instance will always reflect my life at the time. Just like how art always reflects society at the time. I don't think there's a category my art really fits into, because some of my art pieces actually contradict each other. My art has a variety of genres, and you'll be able to see that.
Drawing and Painting 3/2018 - 2019
I have been inspired and influenced by many things. I am inspired by beauty and people, and want to inspire and influence others in return. I am especially influenced by music, it is such a big part of my life and has sort of made me the person I am today. As you can see a lot of my works this year have words, these words are actually lyrics from songs. Just like Art is a form of expression Music is too, and I use my love for music to further evoke emotions in viewers. I have used many materials this year, which includes tempera paint, acrylic paint, watercolor, graphite, ink, and many others. Out of all these different materials my favorite to work with would definitely be water color. I just love the way watercolor applies itself and as you can see I use water color a lot. Its easy to use and also very forgiving. I also just enjoy the transparency it has. I have definitely made progress as an artist this year. I am more attentive to detail and have grown an appreciation for making every piece meaningful. My biggest challenge this year and throughout life is just rushing through things. I am very aware of deadlines and have a hard time balancing between turning things in on time while also making everything just perfect. However I am slowly working on this and have definitely improved compared to previous years. I also have a bad habit of comparing my art to others and not really appreciating their value unless it is heavily praised. Moving forward as an artist I want to be more confident in my skills. I want to not need words of affirmation to think that my art is worthy. Which is also what I want viewers to take away from my work, I feel like a lot of my work is clean and clear. There´s a simplicity to it that may seem boring but can also leave a lot of room for interpretation. A lot of the pieces with lyrics sort of lead viewers into ways of thinking, so I want artists to understand those as well as develop their own thoughts.
