I used many different techniques and tools throughout this semester. A lot of my works used charcoal, pencils, and graphite. I had experience with these mediums in the past but was able to go further in depth with the medium and different tools. I used blending stumps to really create smooth gradations in my pieces as well as darken areas, as well as pieces of cotton. These methods were different from what I was personally used to, as I had only previously used my fingers to blend. A process that I found most useful in the creation process was getting the input of others. I valued peer critique because it helped me to understand areas of improvement in my art. I gained a deeper understanding of the influence others have on me and my influence on others.

Developing Craft and SkillWhat tools, techniques, or processes did you use to create your artwork? What did you learn or gain a deeper understanding of in order to create your artwork?
EnvisionWhat did you envision at the start of your work? What changed as you developed your artwork?
I envision many things at the start of my art works. These things are usually influenced by the world around me and things I often thing of. Especially music I listen to because it is a mirror of myself as a person. I am usually given a prompt to follow and from there begin to think about music that might relate to the topic. Although I have an idea to being with, the piece never looks exactly how I envision it to be. As I developed a deeper understanding of my own art process, I understood how to create artworks that was different to my usual pieces. I think I have been ¨awoken¨ for lack of better terms to new ideas outside of just music inspiration.
I have had many personal interests that are engaged in my art work. Specifically music I listen to and people I look up to, especially EXO and Red Velvet. Their music and concepts all inspire me because they are so unique and sophisticated. Problems I experienced were not being satisfied with a lot of my work because I was comparing them to specific images. My solution was finding my own voice in the work and appreciating my input and ¨twist¨. I also looked towards peers for advice for improving my pieces, and it really helped me to look at my art from different perspectives. This allowed me to be more open to opinions and critique.

Engage & PersistWhat personal interest did you use to engage in the artwork creation? What problems did you experience and what were your solutions?
ExpressWhat feeling, idea, or personal meaning are you expressing in your art? What visual elements such as imagery, color, composition, material, or technique are you using to express your feeling , idea, or personal meaning in your art?
There are many feelings I want to express in my art, most of which relate to growing and improving yourself. This idea of being able to prosper among adversity has influenced many of my works. The ideas of independence and going against society to be individual. I think I definitely had a color scheme that is apparent in many of my works which was red, black, and blue. Imagery within my art was a lot of architecture, life and beauty through flowers and plants. These visual elements all tie back to the original concepts of growth and adversity.
I have noticed that my imagery tends to be more realistic than abstract. A lot of my pieces are simple and easy to understand, but does have room for interpretation. A lot of my pieces displayed are mainly sketchbook pieces. These pieces tend to use less mediums, consisting of pens, pencils, or markers. Another thing I notice with these pieces is that they tend to use minimum range of colors, in my sketchbooks the most colors used is 5. When considering the process of creating my artwork, I noticed that I tend to just create whatever comes to mind. Then I ask for advice from my peers, and adjust accordingly. This method is helpful in ensuring that I don´t create belly-button pieces that don´t seem complete.

ObserveWhat details do you notice about the imagery or the process you used to create your artwork?
ReflectWhat elements of your artwork are you satisfied with? What elements of your artwork would you want to improve?
Elements of my artwork that I am satisfied with is the message that these pieces evoke. As an artist I understand that art can be interpreted in many ways, as an artist I am proud to be able to add to this idea. I have my own thoughts about a piece that may contradict others´ and that is totally fine. Something I wish to improve about my artwork is the craft and time I put into making a piece. A lot of the pieces displayed are sketchbooks, which were expected to be completed weekly. I think this time constraint really had a toll on the quality of my work. The craftsmanship could have been a lot better, and I also wish I would have explored different techniques and mediums with my work.

I have taken many risks during this project. Aspects of art making that I have developed a deeper meaning of would definitely be the feedback and critique portion. Over my time making projects I have always had a specific idea of what I wished to accomplish. But this process has taught me that critique is not a bad thing, that art is whatever you want it to be.

Stretch & ExploreWhat type of risk taking did you engage in during this project? What aspects of your art making or creative process did you develop a deeper meaning of?
Understanding the WorldWhat other interactions with artists and peer artists did you have creating your artwork? What changes occurred in your or others art as a result of interacting with other artists?
Interactions with artists and peers have had a great impact on my artwork. Especially when finding inspiration for my works and taking critique. I have been to many art shows and have become inspired by all the talent in the world. It has been an amazing experience to go to the same school as such amazing artists. We have also had many opportunities to develop our own understandings of the world and what we want to put out with our art. Changes that have occurred in my own art is wanting to evoke a message. I hope that my art would influence others just as theirs have influenced my own.
